U.P. State Credit Union’s Online and Mobile Banking offer a multitude of great features to make managing your finances easier. If you are looking for a way to start saving a little bit of money every day, you should enroll in our Debit Card Round Up program! When you are enrolled in Debit Card Round Up and make a purchase with your enrolled UPSCU debit card, we will round up the purchases you make to the nearest whole dollar amount. We collect that change and deposit into your UPSCU account of choice at the end of the day.
Imagine you’re running errands on Saturday: First, you get gas, charging $58.02. Then, you go to the grocery store and spend $150.86. Finally, on your way home, you decide that even though you just bought groceries, there is no way you are cooking tonight—suddenly there’s a pizza and some breadsticks on your passenger seat accounting for $26.11 spent at your local pizza place. You used your debit card that was enrolled in Round Up for each transaction. This equals $2.01 in rounded change.
You check your home banking, and you see that those charges are not rounded on your transaction activity, you don’t see a debit for $2.01, and there is no credit for $2.01 on the designated deposit account. This is normal! The rounded change from the entire day’s transactions is deposited into the designated account after day-end processing.
Every transaction made when you ran errands on Saturday is rounded at the same time, and the change is deposited during day-end processing, between 1am and 2am-ish on Sunday (and so forth for other days of the week).
The more you use your debit card, the more change is saved and deposited into your account! If you were to use your debit card and have a total of $2.00 in change rounded-up each day of the year, at the end of the year you would have saved an extra $730.00!
Please Note:
- If you have multiple debit cards attached to one checking account, all of the debit cards are enrolled in Debit Card Round-Up.
- The rounded change can be deposited into savings or checking accounts.
- The designated deposit account can belong to you or another UPSCU member.
- Although HSA and IRA accounts are technically savings accounts, they are not eligible to be the designated deposit account.
