Checking Accounts

No U.P. State Credit Union membership would be complete without the access and power of a checking account. With no minimum balance or monthly fees, we make having a checking account a breeze. Not only does UPSCU have numerous check styles to choose from, but members 65 years of age and older receive their checks for free.

Effective thirty days from account opening, a $250.00 Courtesy Pay limit will automatically be placed on your checking account. This program allows us to pay an item presented for payment against our checking account, even if it causes the account to become overdrawn. The Courtesy Pay Program is to assist members that inadvertently overdraw their checking account and should be used only as a courtesy. Should an overdraft occur, your checking account would be charged a Courtesy Pay Fee of $25.00 for each item (with a daily maximum charge of $75.00).

Business Checking Accounts

U.P. State Credit Union welcomes businesses of all sizes to open an account with the Credit Union. Just like our regular checking accounts, there are no added fees for a business account.

Business accounts are also eligible for MasterCard Debit Cards and Courtesy Pay. Like all members, business accounts have full access to home banking, online bill pay, and also have specialized business checks. You can choose a business account that earns dividends or choose a non-interest-bearing account. A Member Service Representative can help you decide which is best for you and your business or club.

Debit Cards

UPSCU Mastercard debit card is an excellent benefit and at no cost to you. Debit cards are available with all checking accounts. To activate your debit card call 800-466-0040. If you will be traveling, please contact a Member Service Representative at any location and provide them with the following information.

This can prevent your account from being locked from a possible fraud alert by Falcon.

U.S. Savings Bonds

Paper savings bonds will no longer be sold by financial institutions. You can buy and manage electronic savings bonds safely online. To purchase a bond, visit Treasury Direct at treasurydirect.gov

Paper savings bonds can be cashed in at any UPSCU location.

Certificates of Deposit

Certificates of Deposit (CDs) are high-yielding, no-risk investments that give you a fixed rate of return for an extended period of time. Minimum balances start at $250.00 with terms ranging from six months to 3 years. Depending on your comfort level or saving style, you can choose to receive a higher yield by having the quarterly compounded dividends roll back into the certificate balance; or you can simply withdraw the dividends or transfer them into your account

IRA

It’s never too early (or too late) to start building your retirement nest egg. Working to build it can be a challenge, but we can help. U.P. State Credit Union offers several types of IRA plans designed to fit your needs:

  • Traditional IRAs — This plan generates deferred earnings, which means you won’t owe any taxes until your money is withdrawn from the IRA.
  • Roth IRAs — This popular option provides after-tax savings for a tax-free income provided you hold the Roth IRA for at least five years and don’t take distributions before reaching age 59½.
  • Coverdale Education IRAs — (formerly known as Education IRA) The Coverdale Account allows up to $2,000 a year to be contributed for an individual. Contributions are not tax-deductible, but growth is tax-deferred. Distributions are excluded from income if used for qualifying education expenses.

You know how tough it is just to find the right gift, let alone finding something for everyone without overspending. With a Christmas Club Account, you can put a little money away every week, bi-weekly, or monthly and have a nice nest egg built by the start of the shopping season or when you’re ready to hit the road. Christmas Clubs at U.P. State Credit Union are a great way to develop the habit of saving a little so you’re well prepared for shopping, gifting, or both!

You can open the account at any time and the balance (plus dividends) will be available whenever you are ready to withdraw or transfer the funds.
